SECONDO CONVEGNO INTERNAZIONALE SULLE GIPSOTECHE :
GLI ATELIERS DEGLI SCULTORI
+ Assemblée générale/General Assembly/Jahresversammlung 2008

Durante le due giornate di studio saranno sviluppate anche alcune tematiche specifiche affrontate dal punto di vista scientifico l'importanza del gesso quale modello, calco di opera d'arte, strumento di studio destinato alle accademie, oggetto di collezione.
Saranno illustrate collezioni di gessi destinate a diventare i luoghi per eccellenza di studio italiani e internazionali; verrà sviluppato il tema delle Gipsoteche di artisti contemporanei. Un particolare argomento, che desterà molto interesse, sarà quello relativo alla riproducibilità delle opere d'arte l'illustrazione di calchi da opere d'arte (Paolina Borghese; La statua del Principe Henryk Lubomirski). Il convegno sarà anche l'occasione per presentare molte realtà che Gipsoteche italiane e straniere e per approfondire la conoscenza della l'Associazione internazionale delle Gipsoteche (AICPM).

The study day includes an evening event on Thursday 20 October (6 pm- 8 pm) at University College London, focusing on the college?s collection of plaster casts by John Flaxman.

Plaster casts are an omnipresent feature in country houses, teaching institutions and national museums. Differing widely in function, status and technique, they are still frequently categorized as copies of more illustrious originals in a cheap medium. This study day seeks to highlight the diverse nature of these objects and will study the history of different types of plaster cast collection. Scholars will discuss the challenges of display and restoration faced by those looking after them today. Case studies will focus on individual artists as makers of plaster casts, as well as on collections including that of the sixteenth-century Paduan collector Marco Mantova Benavides and those of the Academies of Fine Art in Madrid and Vienna.
